The director of "Reply 1988" shared his thoughts on the latest installment of the retro-inspired series, during a November 5 press conference.

Producer-director Shin Won Ho weighed in on the "Reply 1988," reassuring audiences that he also has nostalgia for the late-eighties. The Korean outlet Oh My News published a transcript of the press event, particularly noting highlights from the presentation made the director, who is credited for each installment of the show which started with the 2012 release, "Reply 1997."

"tvN's "Reply" series caused a major retro craze and the third [installment] of the series will continue this," said Shin.

While the plots of "Reply 1997" and "Reply 1994" centered on the question of who would become the husband of female protagonists Jung Eun Ji and Go Ara, the latest addition to the anthology focuses on family dynamics, but will still include romance.

"Some people are writing that there will be no search for the husband [in Reply 1988], said Shin. "But I'm telling you there has to be romance. We can't leave out first loves and the past, from the story."

"Reply 1988" draws inspiration from the hit MBC drama, "Three Families Under One Roof," a long-running series that dominated domestic airwaves from November 1986 through 1994.

The latest installment stars Hyeri of Girl's Day (Jekyll, Hyde, and I) and Go Gyung Pyo who joins his "Tomorrow's Cantabile" and "Coin Locker Girl" co-star, Park Bo Gum.

"Reply 1988" premieres on tvN on November 6 in the 7:50 p.m. KST time slot that was previously occupied by "Twenty Again."
