(San Diego) - The San Diego Sea World is popular fir its 'Shamu the Whale' Show. Its one of the few places to interact with killer whales, also know by their classification as the "orcinus orca." After protests from animal rights activists, Sea World is planning to shut down and stop its theatrical shows with the killer whale.

Allegations against the Sea World included poor treatment of captive whales. These accusations were revealed in a documentary called "Blackfish." And this was followed by a California Congressman, who is seeking to pass a bill that would stop captive  breeding of killer whales.

The San Diego Sea World will phase out its whale show by 2017 while "reating a more informative show with a “conservation message inspiring people to act,” reported thé6 Orlando Tribune.

"The termination of the Shamu Show would effectively bring an end to the San Diego park’s theatrical shows, the Union Tibune reported. "There was no word from SeaWorld on whether orca shows at its Orlando and San Antonio parks would be discontinued."

“We’re not limited to any one animal, to any one show, to any one attraction," SeaWorld CEO Joel Manby said.

He was speaking at a live-streamed online event to investors.. "We are listening to our guests; we're evolving as a company; we're always changing."
