Breakout Star Ryu Jun Yeol Joins Jo In Sung’s New Film

Ryu Jun Yeol, who had a breakout role in the latest "Reply" drama, has landed a part in the star-studded cast of Jo In Sung's new film "The King."

Ryu played the stoic and sarcastic Kim Jung-hwan in the nostalgic drama "Reply 1988." The 29-year-old actor debuted with the short film "Economic Love" in 2013 but 2015 can be considered his breakout year. Not only did he achieve small screen stardom with his "Reply" role and a short stint as a rookie PD in the drama "Producer," but he was also cast in three films.

He appeared in the film "Socialphobia" with Byun Yo Han and was also cast in in the films "Glory Day" and "No Tomorrow."

It is not yet known what his role will be in "The King," a drama about an ambitious prosecutor who uses his colleagues and gang member friends to get ahead.

Jo In Sung plays the ambitious prosecutor and it's his first film in seven years. Jo has focused on dramas lately, most recently appearing in the dramas "That Winter The Wind Blows" with Song Hye Kyo and "It's Okay That's Love" with Gong Hyo Jin.

On January 2, Jung Woo Sung's agency announced that he also joined the film's cast. Jung will play a senior prosecutor, thus he will be Jo In Sung's workplace superior. Jung was last seen in the 2015 film "Don't Forget Me."

As of that date the only roles that still needed to be filled were that of Jo In Sung's movie wife and a gang member. Perhaps Ryu will play the gang member.

The production crew hopes to wrap up the casting details in the next week as the film is scheduled to start shooting at the end of January.

Han Jae Rim, known for directing "The Face Reader" and "Rules of Dating" will direct the film.
