The Occult Korean Drama Thriller "The Cursed" Will Be Screened By The Series Mania Festival
As part of the International Panorama at Series Mania, the occult Korean drama will be screened. The Series Mania festival is an upcoming international TV festival in Europe. This Korean thriller drama is penned by Yeon Sang-ho, the person who also directed the hit zombie film Train to Busan.
'The Cursed' story centers around a girl who by cursing the person can cause their death. She has the power to curse someone with death by using the characters of their name, a picture and, personal belonging.
One day she meets a principled journalist looking into a mysterious tech conglomerate called Forest. The company's head is the evil-minded CEO who believes heavily in shamanism.
After some time the girl who has supernatural abilities and the reporter must work together to bring down the evil spirit.
Yeon Sang-ho the screenwriter and also the director of the drama is recognized for his dark and sometimes controversial themes. His works are usually stories of murder, rage, and the undead. For quite some time, Yeon Sang-ho has penned and directed many stories that show the most pessimistic feature of mankind, but for a shockingly positive reason.
Yeon Sang-ho explained that he thinks all humans have an inevitable demonish facet in their minds. He added that if they talk about this in a story, they can visualize the dark side and this was a very appealing opportunity for him. And for him, 'humanism' glows when we talk about the dark human universe even though his story is brutal and cruel he wants to point out the 'humanism' that glows in that darkness.
As claimed by the artistic director of Series Mania, Frederic the drama is what we call on the edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller that is attached in the present-day reality of a world governed by suspicious tech companies at the same time keeping in existence the tradition of stylish, supernatural Korean dramas.
The formerly "Pieta" star, Jo Min-soo portrays the character of a shaman that is full of mystery in "The Cursed". Actress Jung Ji-soo who was a cast in the award-winning film "Parasite" as the Park daughter portray as the young girl with the supernatural ability in this drama.
Uhm Ji-won is the character of Reporter Im Jin-hee. Meanwhile, Sung Dong-il will play as the CEO in the drama. Yeon characterized "The Cursed" as a combination of occult features added with mystery, thriller and hero stories.
"The Cursed" started its showing in South Korea on tvN network last Feb. 10 and is also continuously being streamed in the U.S. The producers of this drama are CJ ENM's drama production house Studio Dragon and Lezhin Studios. The director is Kim Yong-wan, who directed "Champion".
The Series Mania will be held from March 20 to 28. This festival started in the year 2010 for the purpose to show the world's best TV series on the big screen and since then became an international attraction for TV fans and professionals.
