‘King of Ambition’ Lee Hee Myung Writer Files Criminal Suit Against Association
The Korean Broadcasting Writers' Association decided that SBS drama "King of Ambition" writer lee Lee Hee Kyung had plagiarized and thus had decided to remove him. Lee Hee Kyung field a criminal suit to sue Lee Geum Rim for slander.
On November 6th, "King of Ambition" producer Ver Media released press material and said, "On November 4th, writer Lee Hee Myung filed a criminal suit against the President of the Writers' Association for slander related to published material. The production company also participated as joint plaintiff.
On October 15th, writer Lee Hee Myung had already filed civil suit requesting damages as well as vacating the removal order against the Writers Association. This criminal suit is another step towards showing that Lee Hee Myung was fighting legally against the allegation that the script of "King of Ambition" had plagiarized the script of Choi Ran.
In addition, writer Lee Hee Myung said through Ver Media's in house counsel, "My family as well as myself has gone through a lot of trouble because of the one-sided and basically violent announcement by the association as well as the baseless plagiarism accusations. I want to bring laughter back to my family through the truth and restoring our reputation through a legal battle."
In addition, he argued, "I went to the association and said that this wasn't plagiarism and asked them to reserve their decision until a court decision or viewers' self interpretation was made but through the publication, "Monthly Broadcasting Writer" they severely damaged my creative reputation that's like life itself to a writer."
Director Yoon Young Ha from Ver Media said, "Writer Choi Ran took on the writing for the original drama by Park In Kwon but the contract was disbandoned because it wasn't complete enough and the writer was changed to Lee Hee Myung." Moreover, he said, "Writer Choi was bitter about this and raised a complaint to the association that his script was plagiarized. The association said that this was not acceptable and decided to remove him from the list and find that he had plagiarized."
Ver Media said, "SBS former director and producer Jo Young Gwang who was part of the team for "King of Ambition" don't understand why this decision was handed down and why this person was removed."
Meanwhile, writer Lee Hee Myung has wrote "Mister Q" 'Tomato" "Successful Story of A Bright Girl" and became a hit writer. Last year, he drew more attention as the "Rooftop Prince" and added more individual character to a traditional storyline and became popular. However, he was involved in the plagiarism scandal of "King of Ambition" last April and was removed from the Writers Association. Therefore, he filed civil suit asking for the vacating of this decision and damages in 50,000,000 KRW.
