CONFIRMED: Song Hye Kyo to Return on the Small Screen with a New Drama
Song Hye Kyo will once again work with screenwriter Kim Eun Sook, who also wrote "Descendants of the Sun," for another drama. The series is set to start filming in the second half of 2021.
According to the report released on Jan. 5, a representative from the upcoming drama's production team shared, "Writer Kim Eun Sook is currently preparing a drama and will start the filming in the second half of the year. It is scheduled to air at the end of 2021 at the earliest or in the first half of next year at the latest. Actress Song Hye Kyo was selected to play the lead role."
The new drama will be produced together by Hwa&Dam Pictures and Studio Dragon. It has also been said that the two productions are already in the casting stage.
Following the news, both productions released statements confirming the upcoming project, a source from Studio Dragon's production verified to YTN Star, "Song Hye Kyo will star in writer Kim Eun. Sook's new drama as the female protagonist." Hwa&Dam Pictures has also confirmed that actress will appear in Kim Eun Sook's upcoming drama.
Ilgan Sports also shared that Producing director (PD) Ahn Gil Ho will be the drama director. He is known for his remarkable works such as "Memories of the Alhambra," "Forest of Secrets," "Watcher," and "Record of Youth." Writer Kim Eun Sook and actress Song Hye Kyo had also already worked together before and broke records in 2016 with one of the best Korean dramas ever released, "Descendants of the Sun." The drama gained widespread recognition not only in South Korea but worldwide.
A blockbuster romantic drama that captivated the viewers' interest through the story of young soldiers and doctors dreaming of love and success, "Descendants of the Sun" recorded the highest rating in K-dramas history with a whooping 38.8%. After almost five years, the two will finally reunite in a new drama expected to gain yet another massive audience globally.
This will also be the first drama appearance of Song Hye Kyo after her latest series, "Encounter," with actor Park Bo Gum in 2018. The actress's fans and supporters are already excited to see the actress return on the small screen. There are no confirmed details yet about the story settings and who will be the actors joining the drama, but knowing that Song Hye Kyo is a part of the cast already makes it exciting for many.
