IU ‘Lucky’ to Be Part of ‘Broker’ + Gets Praised by Kang Dong Won for ‘Good’ Acting
While IU is getting massive attention at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, the singer-actress spoke about being among the cast of "Broker" and working alongside renowned Japanese filmmaker Koreeda Hirokazu.
The "Ganadara" songstress, alongside her fellow cast members Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, and Lee Joo Young, lit up the annual event with their presence.
"Broker" was invited to compete at the coveted Palme d'Or for the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
Premiering on May 26, the drama film received a standing ovation after the screening.
With this, IU expressed her thoughts on being one of the casts of the Koreeda Hirokazu-led film.
IU Says She is 'Lucky' to be Chosen by Koreeda Hirokazu for 'Broker'
During the interview with the cast and director, IU dishes out how she has been "loving" the works of the Japanese filmmaker.
As noted by YTN Plus, the singer-actress said, "I've liked director Koreeda's work for a long time, so I was curious when I first got the offer."
When asked how she felt being one of the lead stars, IU humbly said that she "was just lucky," adding that filming "Broker" "is a great opportunity and a pleasant experience to have all the great people in the Korean film industry, including director Koreeda."

In "Broker," she plays the young mother who had no choice but to abandon her infant in a baby box. With the help of brokers Sang Hyun (Song Kang Ho) and Dong Soo (Kang Dong Won) they will find a baby's new family.
However, detectives Soo Jin and Lee, played by Bae Doona and Lee Joo Young, are on the hunt to locate these brokers.
Moreover, the Kpop star also hoped that the movie would raise issues dealt with by single mothers and adoption.
She said that she was moved by the story of So Young, adding that there are still "social prejudices against single mothers" and hoped that society would be more open about these types of setup.
IU Praised By Kang Dong Won
"Broker" is not only helmed by a renowned director but also boasts a star-studded cast.
Kang Dong Won, who appeared in the movie "Peninsula," said nothing but nice words to describe IU.
When asked what it was like working with the singer-actress, he said, "she is a very good actor. What more do I need to say?" praising his co-star.
To recall, this is not the first time that IU was praised by her fellow "Broker" cast.
Ahead of their appearance at Cannes Film Festival 2022, Song Kang Ho mentioned that he was impressed by IU's performance by being able to "express many different and complex emotions.
As noted by SBS News, the veteran actor said that he "had to bring her aside to give her praise. It was that great."
