"Broker" which stars Song Kang Ho, IU, and more hit another milestone. 

After its historic win at Cannes Film Festival 2022, the drama film, helmed by Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu, continues to reign at the Korean box office. 

'Broker' Hit 1 Million Mark in Korean Box Office

Officially released in theaters last June 8, the drama movie has been receiving positive responses from the audience. 

According to SpoTV News, Song Kang Ho and IU's movie surpassed its one million mark as of June 18. 

With this, the "Broker" cast which includes Song Kang Ho, UI, Kang Dong Woon, Lee Joo Young, and the renowned director expressed gratitude to the audience for their overwhelming support.

To recall, after the premiere at Cannes Film Festival 2022, officials announced the schedule of its theatrical release. 

At the time, Ten Asia reported that the distributor of "Broker," CJ ENM, announced that it took first place in reservation rates by garnering 9.7 percent in reservation market share, two days before its debut. 

Interestingly, it surpassed international and local films, in reservation rates which include Hollywood's "Jurassic World: Dominion" and the blockbuster film "The Roundup."

Recently, The Film Promotion Committee shared that the drama film took third place at the box office. 

Based on the report, "The Witch: Part 2. The Other One" is in first place followed by "The Roundup" while "Broker" ranked third with a total of 949,041 last June 16. 

Apart from its recent achievement, the Cannes-winning film was sold to 188 countries which means more international audiences will witness the masterpiece of Koreeda Hirokazu alongside the star-studded cast. 

"Broker" started to premiere internationally, beginning with Indonesia on June 16 followed by Hong Kong and Singapore on June 23. Meanwhile Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan will be on June 24 while France on December 7.

Before the theatrical release, "Broker" was invited to compete at the prestigious Palme D'Or category at Cannes Film Festival where they received a 12-minute long standing ovation. 

Interestingly, Song Kang Ho made history as the first male Korean who won the Best Actor award. 

"Broker" follows the story of a first-time mom named So Young, played by IU, who was forced to leave her infant in a baby box due to an unfortunate event. A baby box is a small space, where parents can leave behind their babies anonymously.

With this, she made a deal with Sang Hyun and Dong Soo, two brokers played by Song Kang Ho and Kang Dong Won to find new parents for her baby. 

Meanwhile, authorities led by Detective Soo Jin and Detective Lee, portrayed by Bae Doona and Lee Joo Young, chase after Sang Hyun and Dong Soo.

The story showcases a unique story of a young mom who was faced with a tough decision. 

Per SpoTV News, the audience sees "broker" as a "dark, but a warm and thought-provoking film."
