The actor's recent IG post comes after the much-awaited sequel "Dr. Romantic 3" confirms its return.
'Dr. Romantic 3' Cast, Release Date, and What We Know So far
On September 15, an official from SBS confirmed that "Dr. Romantic 3" is officially happening with some of the cast reprising their roles.
According to a report, Han Suk Kyu, who plays the titular role of Dr. Boo Yong Joo a.k.a Kim Sa Bu will reprise his role along with fellow lead stars Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyung.
It can be recalled that the Canadian - Korean actor took the role of Seo Woo Jin, who became a skilled general surgeon despite the challenges while Lee Sung Kyung portrayed cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Cha Eun Jae.
‘Dr Romantic’ To Release New Season— Will Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Sung Kyung Reprise Roles?
For two seasons, "Dr. Romantic" depicts the story of Doldam Hospital's top-notch surgeon, Boo Yong Joo, also known as Teacher Kim, who was once a sought-after doctor but was caught up in an unexpected situation, prompting him to work in a countryside hospital.
Both seasons garnered double-digit ratings with the 2016 series scoring 27.6 percent for its personal best viewership rating while the 2020 season ended on its personal best of 27.1 percent.
Interestingly, joining the three lead stars who will return in "Dr. Romantic 3" are screenwriters Kang Eun Kyung and Lim Hye Min with director Yoo In Suk, who directed the two seasons as well as "vagabond" and the hit ENA series "Extraordinary Attorney Woo."
In the same report, the production team says the series returned following the audiences' "great love" and support for the medical K-drama.
"Although two years have passed, the production team and actors will all do our best to prepare so that we can repay those who still remember and await [the return of] 'Dr. Romantic," a representative said.
Following the confirmation of lead stars as well as the people working behind the series, "Dr. Romantic 3" plans to air the latest season in 2023.
Interestingly, apart from "Dr. Romantic 3," Ahn Hyo Seop will also headline "A Time Called You" with Jeon Yeo Bin and Kang Hoon.
