Many are still heartbroken with the bittersweet ending of the trending K-movie "20th Century Girl." In her recent interview, Director Bang Woo Ri shared her affection and inspiration for her first full-length film.

To give the public more details behind the story of the box office hit film, Director Bang Woo Ri dishes on her journey in mapping the masterpiece. It has been said that "20th Century Girl" originally began as an autobiography.

Everything started when the female director shared that her friend had met her first love and they began talking about the past. She pulled out her exchange diary that was kept for a long time, and there was a story of how Bang Woo Ri observed her guy friend had a crush.

She explained, "Thinking about it now, it's an embarrassing story, but I made the story with this out of the thought that it was only possible in that life period."

A simple conversation with a friend and re-reading her diary about her guy friend having a crush on someone gave Bang Woo Ri a wide range of emotions and inspiration to create a new masterpiece.

Adding to her inspiration was her personal interest in youth films. Director Bang said that after watching "Cinema Paradiso," which by the way released in 1988 gave her the motivation to produce a movie similar to its genre. And years later, she finally created "20th Century Girl."

'20th Century Girl' Director Shares Her Love of Youth Films

Since she loves youth films and is the creator of the movie, the director said that she had to watch Japanese or Taiwanese films. However, since the idea of first love is similar, but the culture and emotions are not the same, Director Bang decided to produce "20th Century Girl" in a very Korean way.

When it comes to the cast, Bang Woo Ri expressed her gratitude to Kim Yoo Jung and Han Hyo Joo, who immediately agreed to do the movie. After watching Byeon Woo Seok in "Record of Youth," she was quick to give him an offer as she thought he was well-suited for the role.

Before her interview concluded, Bang Woo Ri said she wanted to create a similar film and produce war stories with ordinary people as the main characters where there are movie-like moments within their ordinary lives.
