Since military enlistment is mandatory in South Korea, even celebrities from sports, K-pop to K-drama stars are not exempted from this rule. 

With this, some stars were forced to halt or wrapped up their activities ahead of their enlistment. 

From Lee Jong Suk to Song Joong Ki, there five K-drama actors had their successful comeback after military discharge. 

Lee Jong Suk

The "Doctor Stranger" star welcomed the year 2021 with a bang after he completed his military duties and was officially discharged as an active-duty soldier. 

After enlisting in the military in March 2019 as a public service worker he took to Instagram and teased his fans with a short yet sweet message. 

​"I've come back," Lee Jong Suk's Instagram caption reads along with a black and white photo. 

Interestingly, among his first activities after discharge are his back-to-project projects for both movies and tv.

After 3 years since the broadcast of "Romance Is a Bonus Book" the actor returns with a smash hit K-drama "Big Mouth '' with Im Yoon Ah. The 16-part episode series ended the season with a double-digit rating of 13.7 percent, making it their highlights viewership. 

Song Joong Ki

In 2013, Song Joong Ki enlisted at the 102nd draft camp in Chuncheon and served under the infantry unit along the DMZ. 

The South Korean heartthrob successfully finished his duties and was officially discharged in 2015. 

Interestingly, right after his military discharge, he geared up for his TV comeback. Song Joong Ki returns with a blockbuster K-drama "Descendants of the Sun" opposite Song Hye Kyo. 

The duo's undeniable chemistry sparked a frenzy among the viewers. The drama was so successful that it had a Filipino remake. 

Lee Seung Gi

In 2017, Lee Sung Gi was formally discharged from the military after completing his mandatory requirement. 

Hundreds of fans waited for him despite the cold weather in North Chungcheong Province to greet the actor for his return. 

Among his comeback projects is the rom-com fantasy K-drama "A Korean Odyssey."

Lee Seung Gi starred along with Cha Seung Won, Oh Yeon Seo, Lee Hong Ki, and veteran actor Jang Gwang. 

Kang Ha Neul

The actor had his enlistment in 2017 and due to his exemplary performance, Kang Ha Neul was appointed as the honorary ambassador of the Military Manpower Administration in 2019. 

It was also the year when he completed his official duties and returned to civilian life. 

After Kang Ha Neul's military discharge, he had his K-drama comeback "When the Camellia Blooms" where he bagged Best Actor recognition at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards. 

Kim Soo Hyun

Last but not least on the rundown of K-drama actors with a successful comeback from the military is none other than Kim Soo Hyun. 

After completing the mandatory service in 2019, he returned to the small screen with a hit K-drama "It's Okay to not Be Okay" with Seo Ye Ji.
