Being a top star is rough. One needs determination and drive to pursue his or her dreams just like these South Korean actors who followed their desire to become an actor despite their parents' disapproval.

From Choi Woo Shik, and Ahn Hyo Seop to versatile star Yoo Hae Jin, these three actors once spoke about how they continue chasing their dreams to become an actor.

Choi Woo Shik

Best known for his role in the 2019 movie "Parasite" Choi Woo Shik also gained global popularity after landing roles in the hit zombie thriller film "Train to Busan" and the action-adventure film "Okja."

However, despite his fame as a Hallyu star, the 32-year-old heartthrob revealed that his parents initially opposed him to pursue his acting career.

His father works as an engineer in Canada hence Choi Woo Shik was prepared that he will also follow in his father's footsteps.

However, it seems like Choi Woo Shik has other plans for himself.

After entering Simon Fraser University, one of the top universities in Canada, he decides to go back to Korea to pursue his acting.

Initially, his parents were totally against it but were able to let him return to South Korea and stayed despite the setbacks and failure during auditions.

Interestingly, he had his first-ever acting project in 2022 for the movie "Living in Style and The Duo."

Ahn Hyo Seop

The "A Business Proposal" star once spoke about how his family used to disapprove of his dream of becoming an actor.

In a 2017 guest appearance on KBS's talk show "Happy Together," Ahn Hyo Seop revealed that he used to be a trainee under JYP Entertainment for three years.

Interestingly, he said that he has been training alongside GOT7 members but he "wasn't able to join the project team."

From budding K-pop star, Ahn Hyo Seop tried his luck in acting and eventually became a part of the 2016 MBC series "One More Happy Ending."

However, he once mentioned that his father didn't want him to become an actor and wanted him to focus on his studies.

Yoo Hae Jin

There's no denying that Yoo Hae Jin is one of the most versatile stars in Hallyu, however, just like Choi Woo Shik and Ahn Hyo Seop, his parents were against his decision of becoming an actor.

"At that time, they were the most handsome boys. They said that actors should be pretty boys. My friends teased me a lot," he tells Yoo Jae Suk during his appearance in "You Quiz on the Block."

Meanwhile, his parents think that acting is not a stable job and will only have a difficult life if he turns out to be unsuccessful.

Despite this, he pursued his dreams and said to his father that he wanted to act. Seeing his determination, Yoo Hae Jin's father was convinced that it was what his son wanted and gave him his blessings.
