Yoo Ah In Summoned By Authorities Amid Drug-Related Issues

After the "Seoul Vibe" star underwent investigation, along with a series of tests, the Drug Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (MFDS) examined the top star's actual medical records and propofol prescription status from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. 

According to a media outlet, on February 27, authorities are planning to obtain the actor's mobile phone and summon Yoo Ah In "as a suspect for investigation" following the release of the results of digital forensics.

This is amid the ongoing investigation of the "Chicago Typewriter" star regarding his habitual use of propofol and other substance found in his body. 

To recall, the public was stunned to hear that the award-winning star is being probed by the police after he was suspected of using propofol or an anesthetic substance used for procedural sedation and used in a hospital setting.

The effects of propofol include relaxation or sleep before and during surgery or other medical procedures.

Yoo Ah In Tests Positive in 3 Substances Including Marijuana, Propofol

During the initial part of the probe, authorities did urine and hair strand tests to see whether the actor is taking an illegal substance. The urine test came with a result, saying that the actor is positive for marijuana use.

Weeks later, a hair strand test was released noting that Yoo Ah In, whose real name is Uhm Hong Sik, administered propofol 73 times in 2021.

In a report obtained by Korea Herald, the actor has exceeded 4.4 liters in total, between January and December 2021, and was used six times a month.

Adding to the list of Yoo Ah In's drug scandal, he also tested positive for a third substance that has yet to be revealed by the police.

In South Korea, excessive use of marijuana is considered illegal with a fine amounting to 50 million KRW (38,000 USD), or five years in prison for first-time offenders.

As for propofol, which is considered a psychotropic drug, is deemed by the Narcotics Control Act that could "cause serious harm and danger to the human body" and was also linked to Michael Jackson's death.

Yoo Ah In's Current, Upcoming Projects Affected By Controversy

As Yoo Ah In made headlines amid the ongoing investigation, his image is in a bad shape since drug issues are a very sensitive issue in South Korea. At the height of the controversy, his endorsements from various brands were taken down from different platforms.

In addition, his soon-to-be-released K-dramas and movies from Netflix might also be affected by the issue. To recall, Yoo Ah In is set to reprise his role in "Hellbound 2," and headline a new series "Goodbye Earth" with Ahn Eun Jin.
