Yoo Ah In is reportedly leaving the cast of "Hellbound 2" and will be replaced by rising star Kim Sung Cheol. 

In a report, the award-winning star continue to face consequences after he gets caught up in drug-related controversy. 

Yoo Ah In Withdraws from 'Hellbound 2' Amid Drug Scandal

As the investigation continues, Yoo Ah In has decided to step down from his role in the upcoming Netflix sequel. 

According to a report cited by DongA, the South Korean top star's role will be taken over by Kim Sung Cheol who recently gained praise for his role in "Our Beloved Summer."

To recall, "Hellbound" is among the most-watched K-dramas of 2021 that made it to Netflix's top 10 global charts. 

Based on the webcomic of the same name, the mystery horror series focuses on human beings witnessing supernatural events after individuals were condemned to hell. 

Yoo Ah In took the role of Jung Jin Soo, the founder of the religious group The New Truth who gets involved in mysterious incidents. 

Now, as "Hellbound 2" gears up for its much-awaited return, Kim Sung Cheol will play the role of cult leader Jung Jin Soo. 

The changes regarding the upcoming sequel come after Yoo Ah In was investigated for habitual use of an illegal substance.

Initially, he was suspected of using propofol but found out that he also use other substances after Yoo Ah In tested positive for hemp, ketamine, and cocaine. 

At the height of the controversy, his agency, United Artists Agency (UAA) shared that the actor is "actively cooperating in all investigations."

'Hellbound 2' Release Date, Cast and What We Know So Far

In September 2022, Netflix officially confirmed "Hellbound 2" after season 1 became a huge success. 

At the time of the announcement, the streaming giant hinted at an intriguing plot as teh tease featured Kim Shin Rok's character. 

Viewers could expect a series of intense scenes with Park Jung Ja returning as a human. 

This raises speculations if the victims who were sent to hell through a decree will return like Park Jung Ja. 

In addition, will the former New Truth chairman Jung Jin Soo, use his newfound resurrection to spread new information? 

Due to the public's questions, "Hellbound" creator Yeon Sang Ho tells Variety about his plans for season 2. 

He says that he and his partner Choi Kyu Seok "have decided that the story afterward will be told first through the webtoon and, as for whether we would want to turn that into another live-action series."

As for the returning cast, it is yet to be confirmed who among the actors who appeared in season 1 will join Kim Sung Cheol in "Hellbound 2."
