Kim Nam Gil shared his feelings about the newly concluded drama "Island" and how he was dubbed Tom Cruise of Korea. 

Kim Nam Gil Graces Vanity Fair Italy March Issue

Veteran actor Kim Nam Gil graced the March issue of the fashion-entertainment magazine Vanity Fair Italy. Through his interview, the male star revealed his feelings about the newly concluded action-adventure drama "Island." 

He played the role of Van, half monster and half human. He is a tough guy with a soft heart. He impressed the audience with his top-notch acting and amazing chemistry with his co-stars. Kim Nam Gil freely unfolds comedy, action, and villain roles and still receives favorable reviews for it.

Kim Nam Gil mentioned that he has a similarity with his character in "Island." According to the lead star, "It resembles a tsundere that is hard on the outside, but soft on the inside."

He added that Van may look like a villain, but he is not, "If you understand the motives, minds, and emotions of his character, you'll know he is not really evil."

Asking why the villain roles are getting popular these days, Kim Nam Gil explained, "It's true that it is an attractive role. The villain has a bit more freedom in the way he expresses himself. It also seems that there are viewers who enjoy interpreting characters."

The award-winning actor shared that he personally digested 98% of the action scenes in "Island" by learning Taekwondo. Since he already knew the sport at a young age, he didn't have a hard time doing action stunts.

Kim Nam Gil completed his character by expressing the complex psychological changes of half human and half monster with delicate acting. The "Through the Darkness" actor also proved himself as a real action star by perfecting everything from spectacular chases to high-altitude, sword martial arts as well as fantasy action. 

Thanks to his versatility and commendable acting especially in action genre dramas and movies, Kim Nam Gil is being dubbed as South Korea's Tom Cruise.

Kim Nam Gil Gears Up For Upcoming Netflix Series 'Bandit: The Sound of the Knife'

Meanwhile, the Korean star has been working non-stop since 2022. After "Island" Part 1 and 2, the veteran actor is returning to the small screen as he is about to headline the upcoming Netflix series "Bandit: The Sound of the Knife."

He will portray the character of Lee Yoon, a Korean who serves under the Japanese military in South Korea. Due to unexpected circumstances, he had to leave everything behind and make his way to Jiandao, China. There he becomes a bandit who protects the settlement in Jiandao and its people.

Joining him in the project are Yoo Jae Myung, SNSD's Seohyun, Lee Hyun Wook, and Lee Ho Jung. 

The scheduled release of the series is yet to be revealed.
