Bae Doona Reveals Interesting Reason She Prefers to Film With No Makeup
Bae Doona gets honest as she talks about her humble beginnings, and why she prefers to act with no makeup.
The award-winning actress is among Hallyu's most sought-after stars. Known for her versatility and taking on unique roles, it's no wonder the 43-year-old celebrity's popularity grew globally.
Interestingly, during her appearance on a YouTube channel, the actress shared the reasons behind her decision to stick with her no-makeup rule.
Why Does Bae Doona Go For No-Makeup Look?
In one instance, the host asked the actress about the rumor that Bae Doona prefers not to get glammed up for a character. She admitted that the rumors were true and wanted to appear all natural in front of the camera.
"My favorite thing is no makeup," she said, as obtained by a media outlet.
When asked if it wasn't not an issue for the team, especially with the director, the actress expressed gratitude that she was able to work alongside great directors at the early years of her acting career, who made her confident in front of the camera.
Despite her current status and a long list of achievements, the actress admitted that she used to be insecure and wasn't confident about herself.
"I tied up my yellow hoodie, removed my makeup, and stood in front of the camera, and it was so comfortable because I had nothing more to put down," she recalled, adding that the barefaced look "felt more free."
Back in 2016, "Tunnel" director Kim Sung Hoon revealed how the actress left him speechless with her acting skills and professionalism.

The director did an interview with Osen, where he spoke about how Bae Doona was a breath of fresh air, especially among stars who wanted to look pretty onscreen.
The director shared that the actress appeared "bare-faced the entire time" of the film.
"What kind of wife would arrive at her husband's accident site with a full face of makeup on?" He pointed out, adding, "Bae Doona says she just did what would be realistic. She also said she doesn't like makeup to hide her emotions."
Bae Doona Responds to Question About Being MIA at Cannes Film Festival 2022
A number of South Korean movies were featured at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, which included two of Bae Doona's upcoming movies - "Broker" and "The Next So Hee." However, the actress was not present at the ceremony.
Interestingly, Bae Doona said that her main priority at the time was finishing her current project. The award-winning star was filming her next work overseas.
She added that being a celebrity may look fancy, but she had to endure sacrifices and a lot of wise decision-making, which included choosing between her work and attending the glamorous festival.
After Netflix's "The Silent Sea," Bae Doona is set to return with a new K-drama, "The Killer Miss Lee," penned by Jung Sung Hee, "Room No. 9" screenwriter.
