THIS 'Bora! Deborah' Scene Goes Viral for the Wrong Reasons - What Happened?

In "Bora! Deborah" episode 9, which aired last May 10, the drama's lead actress Yoo In Na mentioned the Auschwitz concentration camp while comparing it to the importance of self-care to her onscreen partner Yoon Hyun Min, who plays the character of Lee Soo Hyuk.

In particular, Yoo In Na's character said, "In the Auschwitz concentration camp, people were living in deplorable conditions, some managed to take half a cup of water and used the remaining portion to clean their faces. Those people even used a piece of glass and the back of a tray as a mirror. And helped them survive. As a single person, taking care of your appearance and dressing up is a matter of survival."

With this line, the drama received backlash from international viewers. The audience was outraged as the drama's writer used a horrendously tragic historical event as a means to explain "taking care of one's appearance and dressing up is a matter of survival."

Viewers Express Disappointment to 'Bora! Deborah's' Team for Insensitive Analogy

The use of sensitive and painful event to justify appearance obsession has continued to receive criticism not just from Korean viewers but also the international audience. They are angered by how the scriptwriter sees the survival method as a comparison.

According to a source, people who have watched the scene have criticized the absurdity of comparing the actions of Jews in preserving their dignity in concentration camps to self-pampering.

Someone expressed disbelief stating how everyone in the production approved of the writer's analogy as they could have used other methods instead.

As the scene continues to be a hot topic on various online portals, the audience is anticipating whether the drama's production team will release a statement addressing the issue.

This is not the first time that the series went viral online.

In "Bora! Deborah" episode 6, the phishing incident involving the famous actress Tang Wei received explosive response from viewers in China.

Meanwhile, will Deborah and Lee Soo Hyuk be able to fight for their love after their previous heartbreaks?
