Lee Jong Suk Update

Lee Jong Suk gets honest as he speaks about his take on historical K-drama and why he hasn't starred in saeguk in 10 years.

The South Korean heartthrob is known to deliver amazing performances, despite the genre. Whether it's mystery, crime, or rom-com, the award-winning actor will surely shine in every role he takes.

However, the 33-year-old star revealed why he "avoids" doing historical series.

Lee Jong Suk 'Avoids' Doing Historical Series Because of THIS

During his appearance on tvN's "Three Meals A Day," Lee Jong Suk had a serious conversation with host and actor Lee Seo Jin.

He came to prominence after landing lead roles in various saeguk, or historical K-drama, like the 2003 series "Damo," "Yi San" in 2007, and "Gye Baek" in 2011.

As for the 33-year-old star, he confessed that this is the genre that he avoids the most. When Lee Seo Jin asked why, Lee Jong Suk said that he might not be the "right" actor to do historical series.

"I've been avoiding them," he said, as obtained by a media outlet, adding, "Whenever I'd appear in a scene, it felt like my vocal tone and acting would break the flow built by the sunbae-nims co-starring. And I felt so guilty, that I couldn't..." he explained.

On the other hand, being a senior actor, Lee Seo Jin gave him some advice. He mentioned that there are a lot of opportunities for younger stars to join these types of genres.

To recall, Lee Jong Suk's only historical project was the 2013 film "The Face Reader," in which he took on the role of Song Kang Ho's son.

At the time, he was just an up-and-coming actor and had just appeared in "School 2013."

Besides the award-winning veteran, the movie also stars the biggest names in Hallyu. It includes Lee Jung Jae of "Squid Game" and Kim Hye Soo of "Juvenile Justice."

What's Next for Lee Jong Suk?

Despite the actor not being comfortable doing historical series, Lee Jong Suk has a slew of notable roles throughout his career. Apart from it, he has won various recognitions.

In his K-drama comeback for "Big Mouth" with Girls' Generation's YoonA, the 33-year-old top star bagged not just the Best Couple Award at the 2022 MBC Drama Awards but also took home the Daesang trophy.

The recent achievement was his second Daesang win in the same award ceremony after winning the grand prize award for "W" in 2016.

While fans are still waiting for Lee Jong Suk's next project, the South Korean actor is winning in life and in love after confirming his relationship with top singer-actress IU.
