‘Doctor Cha’ Finale Draws Mixed Reactions — Here’s What Happened
The JTBC medical series "Doctor Cha" finally closed its curtains after eight consecutive weeks. Starring Uhm Jung Hwa, Kim Byung Chul and more, the series received great reviews all over the globe.
However, not all feedback was positive. Its conclusion also stirs buzz, causing immense "frustration" and "disappointment" among viewers. Here's what happened.
'Doctor Cha' Ending Divides Public Opinion
After two long months, JTBC's "Doctor Cha" starring Uhm Jung Hwa finally closed its curtains on a happy note.
The drama received an impressive score of 18.5% with its ultimate episode, which is also the work's highest rating in its entire broadcast.
However, feedback from fans weren't all positive as the ending polarized the public's opinion. In episode 16, Uhm Jung Hwa's Cha Jung Suk finally divorced Kim Byung Chul's Seo In Ho.
Both of them walked separate paths without regrets. However, Cha Jung Suk turned down Min Woo Hyuk's Roy Kim's confession, proving that her happiness isn't dependent on any man.
Due to the lack of romance at the end, the series received negativity from the viewers who tuned into the series since the premiere.

One fan argued that forgiving people and having an open ending isn't the best way to end a series. Some of them are also disappointed after learning that Cha Jung Suk didn't end up with Roy Kim.
why does the writer believes that having a happy ending = acting forgiving ? & why do they keep making me feel like me wishing for the nasty individuals to be punished = me being evil

tbh, this ending was in a no-way good or satisfying.#DoctorChaEp16 #DoctorCha https://t.co/BmWW6ldMBG pic.twitter.com/Wf2rbtVizL
People that are upset that Dr Cha didn't end up with Roy are funny cause it was obviously shown that she didn't have deeep feelings for him and Please let sis love herself and fix her life before getting into a new relationship after divorce. I love the ending. 💯 #DoctorChaEp16

#DoctorCha isn't a love story, it was clear from the beginning. it's cha jeongsuk's life and liberation from a bad marriage, constant what ifs and uncertainties.
to end the story with her living her best life, happy and alive, is the only way to end #DoctorChaEp16. pic.twitter.com/tDvwcL3BYk— Mary. (@pearlnquartz) June 4, 2023
However, one viewer defended the writers, saying that "Doctor Cha" isn't a love story; it's a story of an empowered woman who pulls through life's challenges and succeeds on her own.
While the public is divided with the ending, like most K-Drama finales, it's no doubt that "Doctor Cha" is one of the best works ever released this 2023.
'Doctor Cha' Bests 'Itaewon Class' In JTBC History
For eight long weeks, Uhm Jung Hwa's "Doctor Cha" secured its spot at the top as the best drama of 2023.
It enjoyed immense hype and double digit scores during its entire run. The finale recorded a nationwide rating of 18.5%, which marks the highest rating for "Doctor Cha."
In addition, it also marks the fourth highest rating series in the JTBC history, besting Park Seo Joon and Kim Da Mi's "Itaewon Class" which scored 16.5% during its conclusion in 2020.
Despite the work's fair share of backlash over the course of its broadcast, "Doctor Cha" still sits at No. 1 among other weekend dramas across cable channels in South Korea.
