‘The Moon’ Director Reveals Reason for Casting Doh Kyungsoo: ‘He shares those traits with the character”
"The Moon" director Kim Yong Hwa expressed his deep admiration for Doh Kyungsoo for his performance in the upcoming movie.
The EXO member is among the lead stars of the new sci-fi film and will be working alongside award-winning stars Kim Hee Ae and Sul Kyung Gu.
In the press conference for "The Moon," the director revealed what prompted him to offer the lead role to Doh Kyungsoo.

In a report cited by SBS News, director Kim Yong Hwa spoke about the lead character, Hwang Seon Woo, and the similarity of Doh Kyungsoo to his role.
"He is someone who is selfless, a real man," the director said, and he also talked about the challenges that the singer-actor faced throughout his career.
"But he also experienced personal setbacks in life; he shares those traits with Hwang Seon Woo. He conceals those upsetting memories from other people, though,'" Kim Yong Hwa furthered.
In the upcoming movie, Doh Kyungsoo's character, is an astronaut who is thousands of miles away from the Earth after he gets trapped in space.
Sol Kyung Gu, who plays Kim Jae Guk, a former space center director, is set to embark on a new mission: to save Hwang Seon Woo.
Meanwhile, Kim Hee Ae will portray the role of Moon Young, the chief director of the International Space Station.
As the cast talks about "The Moon" during the press conference, director Kim Yong Hwa continues to praise Doh Kyungsoo.
He believes that the EXO member "will continue to succeed as an actor for a long time."

To recall, this is not the first time that the director has worked alongside the singer-actor.
Kim Yong Hwa also helmed the hit movie "Along with the Gods," in which the EXO member plays one of the supporting characters.
The said movie was headlined by Cha Tae Hyun, Joo Ji Hoon, Ha Jung Woo, and Kim Hyang Gi.
With the success of the movie, a sequel was released a year later, with Doh Kyungsoo reprising his role.
'The Moon' Release Date
The upcoming movie is Doh Kyungsoo's comeback to the small screen.
Interestingly, he also mentioned during the press conference that the most challenging part of playing his character was the spacesuit and filming some of his scenes in extreme weather.
As viewers await the highly anticipated premiere, "The Moon" will officially hit the big screen on August 2.
In addition to the lead stars, the upcoming movie also showcases a roster of talented actors. It includes Jo Han Chul from "Reborn Rich," Park Byung Hun from Eve," and Hong Seung Hee from "Move to Heaven."
