‘Lies Hidden in My Garden’ Team Reveals Surprising Facts About Kim Tae Hee, Lim Ji Yeon’s House

From its cast to the overall visuals, ENA's "Lies Hidden in My Garden" is slowly gaining attention. Based on the novel "Lies Hidden in My Backyard," the new thriller-mystery series showcases a lot of symbolism that keeps fans hooked on every episode.

In the drama, Kim Tae Hee and Lim Ji Yeon play characters with contradicting lives. One of the factors that depict their different lifestyles is their respective houses, which play a significant role in the K-drama.

Among the elements that stimulate viewers' interest are the houses of the main characters.

According to the show's art director, Kim Hee Jin, who won a recognition at the 2019 Female Film Impression Skills Award, the movie "Catfish" symbolizes the difference between the two women and the situation that they are in.

Moon Jo Ran's house, which was played by Kim Tae Hee, harbors a contemporary aesthetic.

Given her wealthy background, they selected elevated and minimal pieces with monochromatic color. They purposely created the look of being inside a doll house to make it feel like Moon Joo Ran is trapped in her own world.

Kim Hee Jin explained, as obtained by a media outlet: 

"In particular, only in the kitchen, where Juran is mainly located, I set the ceiling high and changed the wall finish to wood instead of concrete because I wanted to give the feeling of being trapped inside the house." 

Interestingly, the vast background is the area for Park Jae Ho, portrayed by Kim Sung Oh.

According to the art director, it is a "space for himself to control the state," adding that the floor-to-ceiling windows would "express an image of a princess trapped in a tower inside the forest."

As seen in the K-drama, Moon Joo Ran starts to doubt his husband after finding a dead body in their backyard. Park Jae Ho manipulates his wife to make her think that she is losing her mind.

As for Choo Sang Eun, played by Lim Ji Yeon, she lives in a shabby rented apartment with her husband, Kim Yoon Beom, played by Choi Jae Rim.

The art director explained that they filled the room with pattern wallpapers and curtains to contrast the dark life of Sang Eun.

In the thriller-mystery K-drama, Choo Sang Eun is a victim of domestic abuse. While Joo Ran is being manipulated by her husband, she is being physically abused by Kim Yoon Beom.

Meanwhile as the story develops, the art director hinted at the changes with the visuals that along with progress of the story.

Is Kim Tae Hee's House in 'Lies Hidden in My Garden' Similar to 'Parasite'?

While some of the viewers were tuned in to the twists and turns of the story, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a familiar building in "Lies Hidden in My Garden."

Over social media, netizens pointed out how Moon Joo Ran's house reminded them of the Park family's mansion in the movie "Parasite."

According to some, it gives off "Parasite" vibes since both houses have similar elements like huge backgrounds, glass windows, and more.

Although the production team has yet to address this, others mentioned that it might be a "different" house.
