Park Sung Woong Defends His Character in ‘The Killing Vote’: ‘I am not the villain’

Park Sung Woong talks about his interesting role in the upcoming K-drama "The Killing Vote."

Playing one of the main characters, the versatile star headlines the thriller mystery series together with Lim Ji Yeon and Park Hae Jin.

For his new role, Park Sung Woong takes on the character of Kwon Suk Joo, a long-term prison inmate who surrenders to the police after an incident.

In an interview, as obtained by a media outlet, the 50-year-old actor shared what to expect in "The Killing Vote" and gave hints about his character.

Park Sung Woong Says Kwon Suk is Not the Antagonist in 'The Killing Vote'

Expressing his affection for his new role, Park Sung Woong says his character in "The Killing Vote" is "completely different" from his previous ones.

With this, he said that he would be able to show viewers a new side of him.

According to Park Sung Woong, it may seem like he is the story's antagonist, but Kwon Suk is "not a villain."

"He was a jurist with an extraordinary brain," he said, adding that what prompted Kwon Suk to commit the crime was after his 8-year-old daughter was raped by a criminal. Due to this, he personally killed the abuser and turned himself in to the police.

Moreover, "The Killing Vote" will also showcase Kwon Suk's struggle between good and evil.

The actor hoped that he would be able to show his character's warm appearance.

'The Killing Vote' Cast, Release Date

With the show's intriguing teasers and amazing cast lineup, "The Killing Vote" sparks anticipation from the public.

Based on the Kakao webtoon of the same name, it depicts the story of the country's nationwide death penalty vote against criminals.

Depending on the vote, a creepy figure known as "Dog Mask" is the one who executes the death penalty.

One of the important questions raised by "The Killing Vote" is the "idea of justice."

In the upcoming K-drama, Park Hae Jin takes on the role of Kim Moo Chan. He is the team leader of the regional investigation unit at the Southern Provincial Police Agency.

Besides being the youngest police force member to become a team leader, Kim Moo Chan is determined to crack the case under his name.

Meanwhile, Lim Ji Yeon serves as the lieutenant at the Cyber Security Bureau, named Jo Hyun, who works under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

On the other hand, the production team hints that "The Killing Vote" will feature "a lot of intense action" as the police trace the "Dog Mask."

Slated to be released on August 10, viewers could watch the latest episode of Park Sung Woong's new drama on SBS.

Prior to "The Killing Vote," the actor was known for his villainous role in Netflix's "Bloodhounds."
