‘The Killing Vote’ Director Says He'd Been Eyeing to Cast Lim Ji Yeon Even Before ‘The Glory’ Premiere

"The Killing Vote," which stars Lim Ji Yeon, Park Hae Jin, and Park Sung Woong, officially premiered, giving viewers the first taste of their thrilling journey.

Interestingly, during the drama's press conference, director Park Shin Woo shared how she came up with the casting lineup. Sharing some of the behind-the-scenes stories, "The Killing Vote" director talked about the casting process.

The new K-drama is Lim Ji Yeon's project after "The Glory" and "Lies Hidden in My Garden."

It can be recalled that the revenge K-drama, which starred Song Hye Kyo, helped her achieve her second heyday. Not only did "The Glory" make Lim Ji Yeon score Best Supporting Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards 2023, but it also opened a lot of projects for her.

After portraying the viscious villain Park Yeon Jin in the series, Lim Ji Yeon starred in "Lies Hidden in My Garden" with Kim Tae Hee.

It was followed by her current drama "The Killing Vote."

Park Director Shin Woo shared an interesting story about the cast lineup and how he personally handpicked the actress to play the main character in the mystery thriller series.

"Lim Ji Yeon has always been my 'sole pick' for the project," he said, as obtained by a news outlet, referring to the newly released K-drama "The Killing Vote."

According to the director, he was looking to cast Lim Ji Yeon for three years, even before her stint in "The Glory."

As for the actress, she said that she was aware of director Park offering her a project.

"Everyone kept mentioning that to me throughout the shooting of the drama," she added.

In "The Killing Vote," Lim Ji Yeon takes on the role of lieutenant Joo Hyun, who works at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Security Bureau.

Far from her role in "The Glory," where she portrayed the most-hated weather forecaster, Lim Ji Yeon exudes a character that is determined to crack the mystery behind the mysterious figure whom they call the "Gae Tal."

Park Sung Woong Praises Lim Ji Yeon's Acting in 'The Killing Vote'

Besides the director, Lim Ji Yeon also impressed her co-star Park Sung Woong, whom viewers might recognize from his character in "Bloodhounds" and "Snowdrop."

According to him, his female co-star had to memorize a lot of lines, and she nailed every single word.

"For many of the scenes, she had to give a detailed explanation to us, but she never once made a mistake," he added.

Park Sung Woong played the respected prisoner named Kwon Suk Joo in "The Killing Vote." He was imprisoned for taking revenge against the perpetrator who sexually assaulted his eight-year-old daughter.

On the other hand, "The Killing Vote" is the newest thriller-mystery series on SBS. It airs every Thursday at 9 p.m. KST.

Meanwhile, "The Killing Vote" episode 2 is set to air today, August 11, via SBS.
