'Action King' Kim Nam Gil Meets Viewers With Another Compelling Drama 'Song of the Bandits'

Kim Nam Gil once again impressed the viewers with his comeback drama "Song of the Bandits." In an interview, the veteran star shared for the first time some behind-the-scenes stories while working on the action-hero series.

Kim Nam Gil has established himself as an 'Action King' by perfectly performing action acting through different projects. The award-winning actor said that he had been doing a lot of action in every work.

According to him, there are parts where characters for action can be the same and that's when he needs to personally make adjustments. He also expressed his desire to try out more various genres, like rom-coms, but it's rare for his age these days to appear in romance series. 

How Kim Nam Gil Prepared for His Long-Action Scenes

As the interview proceeded, Kim Nam Gil mentioned that the production company requested more action scenes from him. Originally, to make the action easier, the production could divide the cut and do it faster and more plausible. He admitted that the action stunt director who guided him in "Song of the Bandits," was also the one who helped him in "Island."

Since he wanted to do long-take action scenes the two joined forces again to execute difficult stunts. Even though it was physically tiring, Kim Nam Gil did it as it was part of his work, and gained new experience after.

Kim Nam Gil took about 3 to 4 minutes of long-take action in a pattern of taking 30 minutes off after filming for about an hour. 

"If I shoot two or three times, I am already out of breath, so it's less realistic if I put too much pressure on myself, so I took a break for about 30 minutes and filmed again each heavy action scene."

The "Fiery Priest" also revealed one of the reasons he enjoyed filming "Song of the Bandits."

"I used tools that I had never used before. If you shoot a gun in a modern drama, it's automatic, so you only need to load it once. But this time, you had to check the number of bullets for each shot."

In addition, through his new Netflix work, Kim Nam Gil received favorable reviews from viewers for his long-shot action while horseback riding. 

Even though Kim Nam Gil had a hard time working on this series, his hard work paid off as viewers praised his performances in "Song of the Bandits."

He played the role of Lee Yoon, a leader who abandoned everything and led a group in Gando to protect his countrymen against the Japanese military.
