Amid the continued success of "The Escape of the Seven," SBS shared the upcoming changes to the show's second season.

In a report cited by Herald Pop, one of the major changes in the sequel is the new director.

'The Escape of the Seven' Season 2 Announces a New Director

As confirmed by SBS, director Joo Dong Min, who helmed "The Last Empress" and "The Penthouse: War in Life" trilogy, will no longer continue working on the drama in the upcoming season.

With this, his co-director, who worked with him in "The Escape of the Seven" season 1, will be handling the directing for season 2.

"Director Oh Joon Hyuk, who co-directed Season 1, will be helming Season 2," as mentioned by the representatives, adding, "The decision was made in accordance with internal discussions."

As mentioned, director Joo Dong Min is the creator of the hit makjang series "The Penthouse" with writer Kim Soon Ok, who also worked with him in "The Last Empress" and "The Escape of the Seven."

It can be recalled that the current SBS show faced criticism due to its overly provocative and sensational scenes that sparked disappointment from viewers.

Following the backlash, "The Escape of the Seven" faced eight formal complaints. As a result, the Defense Commission has reviewed the contents of the civil complaint filed and checked whether there is a need to submit it to the deliberation agenda.

When Will 'The Escape of the Seven' Season 2 Air?

Although SBS confirmed that "The Escape of the Seven" will have a follow-up season, the sequel is expected to join upcoming K-dramas in 2024.

As for the cast members, there's a possibility that the majority of the actors will reprise their roles in season 2.

Is 'The Escape of the Seven' Worth the Hype?

Penned by the renowned writer Kim Soon Ok, "The Escape of the Seven" is a new SBS thriller mystery K-drama that focuses on revenge behind the disappearance of a high school student named Bang Da Mi.

It stars Uhm Ki Joon as conglomerate owner Matthew Lee, who runs a popular mobile app, but behind this, he is hiding his real identity. It turned out that he is the adoptive father of Da Mi, who wants to avenge his daughter against seven people.

The seven individuals are the reason behind Bnag Da Mi's misery before she went missing.

Besides Uhm Ki Joon, "The Escape of the Seven" cast includes Hwang Jung Eum as Bang Da Mi's biological mother, Geum Ra Hee, while Lee Yoo Bi plays Da Mi's friend Han Mo Ne, who used her to become the K-pop idol that she dreams to be.

Adding to the list of cast members are Lee Joon, Yoon Jong Hoon, Shin Eun Kyung, and more.

"The Escape of the Seven" airs every Friday and Saturday and is available via SBS, Wavve, Viki, Prime Video, and Kocowa.
