Romance film "30 Days," starring Kang Ha Neul, topped the weekend box office, outshining Song Joong Ki's comeback movie "Hopeless."

Kang Ha Neul & Jung So Min's '30 Days' Garners 1 Million Moviegoers + Tops Box Office

In the report released by the Korean Film Council's integrated ticket network for movie theaters, Kang Ha Neul and Jung So Min's rom-com movie "30 Days" also known as "Love Reset," accumulated more than 314,000 moviegoers from October 13 to 15, recording a cumulative viewers of 1,212,293.

The duo's silver screen project comeback continues to achieve new records following its long-awaited debut last October 3 in Korea.

"30 Days" narrates the story of a married couple, Jung Yeol and Nara, who were in love with each other but are now on the verge of divorce. 30 days before their scheduled divorce, the couple got involved in a car accident and lost their memories.

According to a source, "30 Days" was initially considered the weakest show among the films. But the tables have turned and it is now one of the most popular movies showing in theaters and has become the word of mouth of the netizens.

Song Joong Ki's 'Hopeless' Falls Short Despite Long-Term Promotions

Meanwhile, another thrilling movie "Hopeless," starring veteran actor Song Joong Ki, also made its grand premiere. Since its release on October 11 in cinemas, the film has received low ticket sales.

According to KOFIC, "Hopeless" also known as "Hwaran" has attracted 87,710 viewers during the same period, with a cumulative audience of 787,710, which is lower than "30 Days."

The noir movie follows the story of Yeon Gyu, a young man who wants to escape the hellish reality. He crosses paths with Chi Geon, a man in charge of middle management for an organization, and the two join forces to run away from the dangerous world.

It marks Kim Chang Hoon's directorial movie. Ahead of its premiere, "Hopeless" was invited to the 76th Cannes Film Festival and received a standing ovation from the crowd. It was also screened at the 25th Busan International Film Festival.

Unfortunately, despite the hype and long-term promotions, Song Joong Ki's comeback movie fell short and did not meet the audience's expectations.

'Dr Cheon and Lost Talisman,' '1947 Boston,' & 'Beautiful Woman' Continue to Attract Viewers

Meanwhile, Kang Dong Won's "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" made it to the top 3, which garnered more than 58,000 viewers. Im Siwan's "1947 Boston," helmed by Kang Je Gyu, made it to the top 4 and has been watched by 39,865 moviegoers, accumulating 918,999 in total since its debut on September 27.

Uhm Jung Hwa's "Beautiful Woman" also fell short as it only recorded a total of 37,354 audiences.
