‘The Marvels’ Team Explains Park Seo Joon’s Striking Costume After Receiving Backlash from Public

After months of waiting, fans are excited to see Park Seo Joon's Hollywood debut as he joins MCU's "The Marvels" alongside Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and more.

However, as the highly anticipated movie officially hit the big screens, fans expressed their dismay at the South Korean star's look.

Taking on the role of Prince Yan of Aladna, Park Seo Joon transformed into a long-haired superhero.

In addition, the MCU also introduced the actor's character wearing golden headgear.

On top of it, Park Seo Joon's costume in "The Marvels" also features golden wings, which some find odd.

After MCU released the trailer, fans and netizens flocked to social media to express their disappointment with the actor's styling.

 

Various outlets noted that the public seemed to be unimpressed with how the character was styled

Others were confused if the crown was from the Silla era or if the character was inspired by an Indian god.

'The Marvels' Costume Designer Explains the Reason Behind Park Seo Joon's Look as Prince Yan

Directed by Nia DaCosta, "The Marvels" team also featured Lindsay Pugh, who is in charge of the costume design.

According to reports, the team made reference not only to the characters based on comics but also took inspiration from the concepts in all MCU movies and series.

As mentioned, Lindsay Pugh wanted the character's inner strength and status to be the highlight of his look, hence the golden crown.

"Prince Yan needed to be strong but also have a somewhat serious feel. His costume had to shine with beautiful colors yet possess a hint of strength."

Park Seo Joon is among the few South Korean stars who managed to land an acting debut in Hollywood.

With the actor marking his first ever international project, fans are thrilled to see PSJ's role as he takes on a challenging character.

However, other than the styling or costume in the movie, fans got disappointed over Park Seo Joon's screentime in "The Marvels."

Park Seo Joon Screen Time in 'The Marvels' Garners Attention

Days before the global release of the movie, an online post garnered attention after the user shared that the actor had a short screentime in the movie, saying that he only had a 2 minute, 47 second appearance.

Netizens and fans can help but feel disappointed because, all the while, they thought that the actor was playing a significant role since he was a part of the trailer.

Interestingly, Park Seo Joon briefly commented about this and explained the reason behind it.

As mentioned by SBS Star, the actor mentioned that the character of Prince Yan played a significant role in Carol Danvers' life.

"Some might think my part in the movie is too short, but I believe it plays a crucial part in the overall narrative of The Marvels."
