Dedication and passion are needed especially as an actor. In the past year, many Hallyu stars took on the challenge to elevate their visuals in order to immerse themselves in their brand new roles.

From Ahn Jae Hong to Im Siwan, here are the three actors that made impactful changes in their appearances to further deliver a seamless and flawless watching experience. Keep on reading to know more.

Ahn Jae Hong

In 2023, Ahn Jae Hong left an impressionable performance through his Netflix series "Mask Girl" with Nana, Go Hyun Jung and Lee Han Byul.

Unlike his "goofy and calm" image in his previous works, Ahn Jae Hong shocked the public with his transformation as Joo Oh Nam.

The actor played an anime and was a BJ (broadcast jockey) fan. He gained 10 kilograms for the role and even faked hair loss to synchronize with the webtoon character.

Apart from his physical transformation, Ahn Jae Hong proved that he's a witty actor after he ad-libbed, saying, "I love you" in Japanese as if he was possessed by the character itself.

This left Go Hyun Jung, a veteran star, speechless, instantly becoming Ahn Jae Hong's fan. Watch his performance here:

Hwang Jung Min

In "12.12: The Day," Hwang Jung Min enjoyed another box office sensation that dominated the film industry in 2023.

Hwang Jung Min transformed into a villainous private organization leader, captivating the attention of the viewers with his passionate acting.

The actor sacrificed his appearance and time as he underwent four hours of special makeup to change into the bald-headed Jeon Doo Kwang.

He personally altered his character's appearance so as to not appear "perfect," which would defeat the purpose of his role.

In addition to that, Hwang Jung Min apologized to his fans for his evil role, which flawlessly made a great impact on the viewers.

Im Siwan

Before 2023 ended, Im Siwan returned to prime time with the new drama "Boyhood."

Unlike his challenging roles from marathoners to psychopaths, Im Siwan transformed into a bullied genius named Jang Byung Tae.

The actor let go of his hair, and cut it short to give life to his role. He even lost some weight for the drama after bulking up for his film "Road to Boston," which aired in the third quarter of 2023.

Moreover, Im Siwan received private lessons for three long months to learn the dialect of his character, showcasing his passion and love for his work.
