On January 23, Kim Hyun Joo sat down for a brief interview with Netflix, and got candid about her first challenge of acting in an occult K-drama with "The Bequeathed."

In the series, she transforms into a woman whose life turns upside down after inheriting an eerie cemetery from an unknown relative, which puts her in bizarre and murderous situations.

"The Bequeathed" marks Kim Hyun Joo's third project with Yeon Sang Ho, following "Hellbound" and "Jung_E" which were released in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

According to the actress, Yeon Sang Ho is the sole reason why she chose to star in the drama. She said, "It's a guaranteed high caliber work so I didn't hesitate to accept the offer."

She added that she's always grateful for the director who gives her courage to take on new challenges as an actress. She shared, "I can always give a great performance with the director."

Meanwhile, director Yeon Sang Ho described her as an "inspiring persona," thanks to her thirst for challenges and determination.

Surprisingly, during filming, she enjoyed the work as a whole. She also shared that she did something she has never done before to create a dramatic element.

"It was my first time swearing at work," Kim Hyun Joo admitted. "Because I also didn't swear much in real life, I had to practice delivering swear words without being awkward in the camera."

Sadly, the car chase scenes in the work were edited a lot. According to her, she swore a lot in the mentioned scenes, expressing her regrets as she put in a lot of effort and courage in it.

When asked why she doesn't swear in real life, Kim Hyun Joo reasoned that she's an actress who speaks a lot, making her more wary of what she says both in front and behind the camera.

Lastly, Kim Hyun Joo expressed her gratitude to the supporters of the Netflix series. Currently, it tops the global charts in more than 20 countries including South Korea, Singapore and more.
