Despite learning about the truth, the principal director isn't ready to give up to the king. Instead he evades the issue and creates a new plan.

Meanwhile, the inspector general is summoned, realizing that the man who spied on the late king is Lee In's (Jo Jung Suk) man, which is considered a crime of treason.

Elsewhere, the court lady mocks Joo Sang Hwa (Kang Hong Seok) for letting the king face a near death experience while Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung) is recovering.

Kim Myung Ha (Lee Shin Young) holds hands together with the other ministers at the palace, following the revelation that Lee In ordered to take down the late king.

He realizes that a single life causes so much distress now only in their lives but also in their people's. Meanwhile, the principal director meets up with the queen, raising suspicions.

The former tells the queen about the issue from three years ago, upsetting the queen. Later on, Kang Hee Soo learns about the king's plans for the palace.

Lee In confesses about faking the late king's death and last words, revealing that he ascended to the throne falsely and with his own pleasure in mind.

Will Lee In Confess His Crimes?

Kang Hee Soo assures him that she understands why he did it, and promises that she will be by his side no matter what. This angers Kim Myung Ha, calling her a hypocrite for siding with him.

Lee In is given two options to save his life: to confess to his crime and be punished or be shamed in public in his reign as the king.

The following day, the truth is finally revealed, thanks to the court lady who overheard Kang Hee Soo's father and the late king's plans to spoil the reputation of the Joseon king.

Scared for her life, the court lady prepares for the night by applying a red lipstick on her lips while he interrogates the king about the truth in his room.

She aims to be saved from the punishment, persuading the king with a condition and a request. "Captivating the King" episode 13 ends with the court lady kissing Lee In on the lips, raising tension.
