Kim Ji Won Reveals Reason for Choosing 'Queen of Tears' Her Next Work

Ahead of her much-awaited small screen return, Kim Ji Won sat for an interview and talked about her drama "Queen of Tears" and the transformation she will have for the new role.

"Queen of Tears" is a romantic series that features the miraculous and humorous love story of a married couple, who manages to survive a crisis and stays together against all odds.

Kim Ji Won plays as Hong Hae In, a chaebol heiress dubbed as the "queen" of Queens Group's department stores, and the wife of Baek Hyeon Woo, to be played by Kim Soo Hyun, the legal director of the conglomerate Queens Group.

When asked about her reason for choosing "Queen of Tears" as her next work, Kim Ji Won revealed that she wanted to give life to Hong Hae In, who appears cold but is soft and lovable inside, looks strong but delicate, and is not just an ordinary person.

"I got the thought that I could take on a new challenge through a role with a different vibe from my previous works."

Kim Ji Won further explained her new character Hong Hae In.

"She is a cold and frank figure who appears to have lived a life without lacking anything. Hong Hae In is used to running forward, and she is someone who is not used to restoring relationships while taking care of her wounds, so her wounds and loneliness touched me greatly."

When discussing her character's fashion, the "Descendants of the Sun" actress explained:

"I thought a lot so that Hong Hae In's elegant and extravagant styling not only simply reflects her wealth but also connects the character's situation and emotions."

She shared that she focused on the idea.

"As she feels happier, her outfits become more extravagant."

Kim Soo Hyun Makes Kim Ji Won Comfortable While Filming 'Queen of Tears'

As the conversation continued, the lead star compared her character's relationship with Baek Hyeon Woo as a magnet.

"Even though it seems like they are pushing each other away, they are complete when together and can move onwards while deciding on a direction."

Mentioning her upcoming pairing with Kim Soo Hyun, the actress dished on her soon-to-unveil chemistry with the actor.

"Kim Soo Hyun makes the filming set comfortable and bright. Thanks to his personality, we were able to highlight our on-screen chemistry as a married couple well."

Furthermore, catch Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun in "Queen of Tears" beginning March 9 on tvN and will also be available on Netflix.

The drama will occupy the Saturday and Sunday slots.
