Actor Jung Il Woo is set to return to the small screen as the male lead in KBS2's upcoming weekend drama Splendid Days, the network confirmed Monday.

"Jung Il Woo has been cast as the male lead 'Lee Ji Hyuk' in the upcoming weekend drama Splendid Days. He will greet viewers with a new role and fresh charm," KBS2 announced on June 17.

Splendid Days is a family melodrama centered on the idea that everyone experiences their own "splendid days," whether in the past or future, moments that hold unique emotional meaning for each person.

The series will explore these defining periods in life through the lens of personal growth and reflection.

Jung will portray Lee Ji Hyuk, a man who appears to have it all—success in both career and romance, as well as widespread admiration.

Ji Hyuk is also calm, self-assured, and even a little bit snarky. But there's more to his polished facade than appears.

The hero's path is one of disgrace and redemption as he faces the trials and tribulations of life and tries to find its true meaning.

The part takes on a character with emotional depth and a certain reliability.

"Jung Il Woo has impressed audiences with his performances in every project," a representative from the production team said. "Please look forward to the new character and acting he will bring to Splendid Days."

Jung Il Woo is well known for his roles in a variety of hit dramas, including Bossam: Steal the Fate, Moon Embracing the Sun, Haechi, Cinderella and the Four Knights, and Golden Rainbow.

In addition to his work in acting, Jung remains active in fan and charitable endeavors.

He recently did a solo Japanese fan meeting and remains a representative for the Korean Red Cross.

Apart from Splendid Days, Jung said the Korea-Vietnam theater collaboration, Leaving Mom Behind, is also on tap. Splendid Days is set to air in August on KBS2.
