Singer-actor Lee Seung Gi is drawing attention after speaking candidly about his concerns for his 21-month-old daughter's future, sharing that he hopes she will not follow him into the entertainment industry.
His comments were made during his appearance on the November 26 broadcast of MBC FM4U's Noon Hope Song, where he participated as a guest to promote his new release, "By Your Side."
According to Koreaboo, Lee talked about how fatherhood changed his values and priorities, sharing his love for his daughter and his genuine desire to know what road will make her happy. Host Kim Shin Young brought up comments Lee had made earlier about education and career expectations.

Kim said, "Didn't you once say that you don't expect your child to excel academically but you'd still like her to attend a science high school? If she turns out to be very talented at singing, would you let her become a singer?"
Per to TV Report, Lee acknowledged the conflicting nature of his earlier comments. Before his response, the article noted that he recognized inconsistency in how he described his hopes for her education.
Lee explained, "Even I can tell that what I said doesn't make much sense. I don't want to force her to 'study hard,' but I guess I was hoping she would be self-motivated and achieve things on her own. I've given up on that too—I just want her to follow whatever path she truly wants."
He explained, "That's something I've been thinking about even before she was born. Personally, I really hope she doesn't. Having experienced this industry firsthand through variety shows and music, I know it can be rewarding, but getting to that point requires tremendous sacrifice and hardship."
Before his next statement, the report noted that Lee had elaborated on how show business was tough compared to academics. He continued with, "Now I finally understand the saying, 'Studying was the easiest part.' Studying happens within the safe boundaries of school, but the entertainment world has no fences—it's like the wild, where you must survive on your own. I don't know if I could bear to watch my own child go through that."
Lee Seung Gi married actress Lee Da In in April 2023, daughter of actress Kyun Mi Ri, and had their first daughter on February 2024.
