Why ‘Pretty Actor’ Jang Geun Suk Failed ‘Pretty Boy’

Actor Jang Geun Suk is still a very attractive character. From his good looks to the popularity he is enjoying as a Hallyu star, his competitive edge as a 20 something actor precedes that of any other actors in their 20s. In addition, the fans who remember him from the dramas "Beethoven Virus" in 2008 and "You Are Beautiful" in 2009 will know that Jang Geun Suk's acting skill is also great.

However, popularity of an actor never guarantees the national viewing rate of a drama. In terms of the weekday dramas, Jang Geun Suk seems to becoming the icon of failure. Starting from the drama "Mary Stayed Out All Night" which ended with the national viewing rate of 7.3%, drama "Love Rain" ended with the national viewing rate of 5.9%, and the recently ended drama "Pretty Boy" ended with the worst national viewing rate of 3.8%, evidencing that dramas that Jang Geun Suk starred as the main character failed to attract the TV drama viewers' attention.

Although he might be enjoying a lot of popularity abroad, if he is not loved by the fans in Korea, his popularity could decline in a matter of time. It seems that Jang Geun Suk, who did not have any good TV drama since "Beethoven Virus" in 2008, needs a kind of change in his acting career, instead of keep pursuing the "pretty boy" roles.
