Five Fun Facts About Park Min Young

Park Min Young was considering a role in "Doctor Stranger" with Lee Jong Suk. But now she has decided to take part in "You're Surrounded," a drama about rookie cops. The show likely also star Lee Seung Gi as a trouble-making rookie and Cha Seung Won as the short-tempered squad leader.

The actress is known for her roles in "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" with co-star Park Yoochun and "City Hunter" with co-star Lee Min Ho.

But there's more to this actress than her star billing and enviable co-stars.

Here are a few facts.

1. She made her big screen debut in a horror film, "The Cat." In the 2011 film, she played a girl who works at a pet grooming shop and starts seeing visions of a girl with cat-like eyes. Horror films are usually the way rookies break into the business but this accomplished k-drama actress saw the role as a challenge.

"Female characters are usually depicted as being simple-minded in horror films, just screaming away, but this character was more developed, the type not often seen in such movies so I thought the role would be worthwhile," she said.

2. She won the "Fashion Artist Award." The fashion icon award is given to Asian stars that influence fashion trends at the China Music Awards. The drama "City Hunter" was very popular in China.

3. She graduated from Dongguk University last year where she majored in theater and film.

4. She only had good things to say about her "City Hunter" co-star Lee Min Ho and that was before she dated him.

"Our acting styles are similar," she said when they were filming together. "Weboth  react only after listening to the other person's words and we are serious when we're serious but also playful when we're playful. Lee's acting is considerate. As much as we had good chemistry because of our similar styles of acting, I also got a lot of help from him."

The couple dated for a few months after the end of "City Hunter." They went public with their relationship only to break up, citing busy schedules.

5. Park Min Young's favorite character so far has to be the brave smart Yoon Hee in "Sungkyunkwan Scandal." She says she learned a lot from Yoon Hee and the character's struggles helped her summon the courage to overcome her own obstacles.

"It isn't often that you get to learn through a project and the character you play in it," she said. "I think having the opportunity to learn things from Yoon Hee makes me a lucky person.

She was also the easiest character to leave behind.

"The drama had a happy ending and I just believe she'll live happily."

"You're Surrounded" will follow "Three Days" in April.
