PPL Used and CF Appearance Contract Successful, Serious "Concentrated Effect"

Production company director A that is preparing a drama has deep sighs.  He has secured a script with great reviews ans reviewing the programming of terrestrial broadcasting.  However, there is no one to be in the drama.  He has given his script several times but they've said, "I like that but I'd like to be in a romantic comedy."

"Romantic Comedy" is a sweet drama.  Recnetly, there has been great success in the SBS dramas "The Inheritors" and "You Who Came from the Stars" and the male and female character getting so much attention as the attention was even more focused.

Why are stars so focused on 'romantic comedies?"  It's because it's the most safe.  Some critics say that it's 'obvious love' and points to the flaws but it's the truth.  They say nothing is new under the sky but depending on the chemistry between the man and female protagonist and how they get along, the public's reactions can be extremely different. A generally popular drama cannot be denied as nothing could be better than a "romantic love" that can encompass both old and young, men and women.

Laughter is also the universal element.  Writer Park Ji Yoon who wrote "The Queen of Support" "You Who Rolled In" "You Who Came from the Stars" is always filled with laughter.  Writer Kim Eun Sook who is called the queen of romantic comedy didn't leave out laughter in the project as the project raised the empathy fo the public and led their reputation to a positive image.

A staff member of a contract company said, "The miniseries during the week are typically created from about 16-20 episodes.  "The Great Janggeum", "Queen Sunduk", and other great period dramas cannot be said in this time frame.  You have to think about the economic aspects as well as the temporal and special restrictions.  The situation is like this and that's why things have to be set in the present time and even though the jobs change, you have to tell a story of an obvious love story.

There's another reason stars are fixated on romantic comedies.  It's because it give a positive effect to advertising contracts.  The popularity of a drama leads to the popularity of an actor and then to advertisements.  The products that are advertising gets to be placed in a PPL in a drama that theya re in and a company that put a PPL in the drama can also officially request a CF contract with an actor in the drama.

A staff member said, "It's easy to easy to get a PPL for a romantic comedy.  Most of the PPLs are clothing, accessories, cell phone, coffee, makeup and other core CF aspects and when considering that the most important thing that stars consider is advertising contracts, they tend to want to avoid period dramas and genre material and stay fixated on romantic comedies so this is a survival skill.

There are voices that wory about stars like this.  If they ignore the variety of genres and only want to satisfy themselves, then all the contract companies will shout 'romantic comedies' and make 'romantic comedies.' Such one sided reality makes the public get sick of romantic comedies and the drama market will slowly lower on average.

There is a drama that we can use as an example.  SBS "Three Days" (script Kim Eun Hee, director Shin Kyung Soo) is a genre material and is keeping its place in 1st place as it is topping the charts.  100% of the proceeds from advertisements are sent to the broadcasting company so it could be said that it's the faithful son of SBS.  The main character Park Yoo Chun has already been introduced to China and has been getting love calls from within the company and internationally.  This means that when genre materials are well made, it can appeal to the public.

SBS "God's Gift" (script Choi Ran, director Lee Dong Hoon) is also getting great reviews.  There is criticism that "it's a bit hard" but it attracted the attention of viewers with a tight plot and the passion of acting.  Recently, the tvN drama "Kap Dong" is also rumored to have been well made.

A staff member of a management company said, "The three genre material have received great reviews and the actors have been getting a lot of focus.  Before you lift the lid, it's unknown what kind of results will happen.  In the shoes of the staf nad the manager, they just want to raise the success rate and end up fixating on romantic comedies" they said.
