Director Kim Ki Duk on April 18, 2014, through his company Kim Ki Duk Films said, "One on One is a movie about a country I live, South Korea." He added, "I wrote the scenario for the movie first confessing that I too am a coward. As I live in this country, I am shocked every day. Even corruption, when done well, is a skill. I have hated the society, got raged against it, forgave it, and emptied it. Who is the high school student Oh Min Joo who gets killed in the beginning of the movie?
