The actress Go Ara will soon be surrounded by some top notch male leads in the upcoming drama "You're Surrounded."

She will play a rookie police officer that barely made the grade but is so passionate about working for justice that she keeps on fighting. It's a fitting role as the 24-year-old actress has demonstrated plenty of determination throughout her career.

Her "You're Surrounded" co-stars include Lee Seung Gi, last seen in "Gu Family Book," Cha Seung Won, who appeared in "The Greatest Love," and Ahn Jae Hyeon, who last appeared in "You Who Came From The Stars."

Here are some more facts you may not know about this up and coming actress.

1. She won a role in the Japanese-Mongolian film "Blue Wolf by beating out 39,157 other actresses. It must have been one impressive audition.

2. Once she gets a role, she will do what it takes. For her role in "Reply 1997, she not only gained almost 20 pounds but she cut her hair off. Some critics worried that she would ruin her image.

"Gaining weight was a mission that Director Shin Won Ho gave me," the actress told Sports Seoul. Even after I gained 10 pounds, he wanted me to put on more weight. I gained a total of 17 pounds and now I am trying to lose it."

People were also shocked that she was willing to cut her hair for the role, but she pictured the character as tomboyish.

"I could have played Na Jung with long hair but I thought short hair would suit her character better."

And she did not just trim her hair, she razored and permed it.

 "I heard that in the 1990s, people used to cut their hair with a razor blade and got a perm by wrapping the hair with foil, and so I tried the same," she said.

3. Her participation in "Reply 1997" renewed her faith in her acting ability. Before that role she worried that she had reached the limit of her ability. But the series earned so much praise that it restored her enthusiasm.

4. The actress found it hard to make friends as a child because her family moved around a lot. Her father was a soldier and they often had to relocate. When she was a junior high school student, she auditioned for SM Entertainment, which trained her in acting, singing and dancing. She made her debut in "Sharp #1" and had her breakout hit in the 2006 drama "Snow Flower."

5. Go Ara says that love is fated and there is someone for everyone. 

"I think that there is somewhere out there to whom I will just feel connected to. You may call me a fatalist. I think there is someone out there to whom I will just immediately feel a special connection."
