Killzone Shadow Fall DLC gets an update come May 13, and gamers have reason to rejoice. Guerilla Games is offering the new downloadable content absolutely free.

A new Killzone game may not be in development, but gamers who've gone through Shadowfall are in for a fresh treat. Guerilla Games is set to release a new map, available for download at the PlayStation Store. The developer plans to bring out more content in the future, to improve and extend gameplay.

The Canyon Map is reportedly in development, and is now confirmed free to download May 13. The developer has been hinting of the release in a teaser video, and given the success of downloadable content in previous-gen and next-gen games, the Killzone expansion should breathe new life into gameplay.

DLC usually comes with a premium of at least a few dollars, so gamers are in for a treat with the news. The move adds value to the Killzone installment, and builds a support base for future Guerilla Games titles.

DLC expansions and season passes are staples of game titles, across the major console platforms. Preordering copies gives exclusive access to content, as well as early crack at the game, weeks before digital copies hit the shelves.

In related news, Guerilla Games is reportedly developing a new RPG, the details of which are still under wraps. Insider leaks hint of an open-world adventure type game, and Sony does confirm that it is anticipating a new title from Guerilla Games in the coming months.

Killzone Shadow Fall DLC follows through on the success of similar action titles, notably Call of Duty Ghosts. Participation in Killzone's online multiplayer mode has suffered since release, and a new map is intended to bring back gamers for added play.

Guerilla Games takes on DLC with a different approach, compared to competing developers like Infinity Ward and Activision (product-reviews.net).
