The highly anticipated sci-fi film “Snowpiercer” will make its U.S. debut at the 20th LA Film Fest as the focus film of the Opening Night Gala on June 11. Directed by Bong Joon Ho, “Snowpiercer” stars Korean actors Song Kang Ho and Go An Sung, alongside Hollywood actors Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris. Bong Joon Ho received acclaim after directing “The Host” and “Memories of Mother”, while renown director Park Chan Wook is the producer “Snowpiercer." “Snowpiercer” is a post-apocalyptic tale of the journey of people who were fortunate enough to gain a spot on the Snowpiercer, a train which provides salvation from the harsh effects of a global warming experiment that went awry.

Although, the film has been delayed in its U.S. release, “Snowpiercer” was a blockbuster in Korea. “Snowpiercer” was also well-received by audiences in France and China. “Snowpiercer” delivers commentary on the effects of global warming and the way in which society adapts to worldwide crises. Truly reflecting a global story, “Snowpiercer” was filmed within the Czech Republic, France, South Korea, and the United States. The film includes English, Korean, Japanese, and French as spoken languages and will be screened with English subtitles. “Snowpiercer” will be released in U.S. theaters on June 27.

The Korean film “10 Minutes” will compete at LA Film Fest within the Narrative category. “10 Minutes” has been well-received within the film festival circuit, after debuting at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival. Directed by Lee Yong Seung, “10 Minutes” is a study of the unyielding work environment that is faced by Korean professionals. Rounding out Korean films at LA Film Fest is the indie hit “Han Gong Ju”. “Han Gong Ju” is directed by Lee Su Jin and is included in the International Showcase of LA Film Fest.

LA Film Fest will be held from June 11 through June 19.

'Final Recipe' starring Super Junior's Henry will screen at SIFF.

“Final Recipe” which was recently featured as the Closing Night film for the 2014 LA Asian Pacific Film Festival is included in the lineup for the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF). “Final Recipe” stars Super Junior-M's Henry Lau as an aspiring chef who enters a high-stakes competition to save the restaurant of his ailing grandfather. Henry makes his acting debut by starring opposite actress Michelle Yeoh of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." “Final Recipe” will screen on May 24, June 2, and June 4.

Other Korean films screening at the Seattle International Film Festival include “Dream of Iron”, “Intruders”, and “Our Sunhi." “Dream of Iron” is directed by Kelvin Kyung Kun Park and is an examination of the Hyundai shipyard in Ulsan. Beyond the machines contained in the shipyward, Kelvin Kyung Kun Park looks at the spirituality of industrialized man. “Intruders” is an absurdist film that is the Noh Young Seok follow up to “Daytime Drinking”. “Our Sunhi” stars veteran K-Drama actors Kang Sang Joong and Lee Sung Kyun alongside Jeong Yu Mi. “Our Sunhi” is a study in the dynamics of the tenuous relationship between a professor, his student, and her ex-boyfriend.

The 40th Seattle International Film Festival takes place from May 15 through June 8.
