"Modern Family" season 5 spoilers are up and the fans of the hit U.S. comedy sitcom would be reeling with excitement as the two-part big wedding special for the series' finale is set to air this week.

Cameron Tucker and Mitchell Pritchett, played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson respectively, will tie the knot in what could be the highest-rating episode for the comedy show, according to the "Modern Family" season 5 spoilers by Examiner.com.

"I actually really applaud the writers for sort of going there with that relationship. I think it's something very real and a lot of parents sort of have their own evolution with accepting a gay kid, and certainly Jay (Ed O'Neil) is going there with Mitchell," Ferguson said dishing out "Modern Family" season 5 spoilers duuring a guesting in Good Morning America last week.

But the show definitely provided quite a cliffhanger when viewers wondered whether a wedding will actually take place in the season's final episode.

"It's going to happen," Ferguson said in video interview in the Wall Street Journal. "You're going to have to wait another week, but it's going to happen. At least unless they've changed it since I shot the finale, which they can possibly do. Maybe we shot something where we don't get married. As far as I know, we're getting married this week."

The television program's focus on the marriage between Stonestreet and Ferguson's characters throughout "Modern Family" season 5 has created a positive impact on how the country has become more lenient and accepting on the terms of gay marriage and equality.

"I can't ignore that the show has social ramifications. And I think there's something really lovely about the way our writers have introduced Cam and Mitch to America. And for a lot of people, they might be the first gay couple that they know. Or at least that they know are definitely gay. And I think it presents them in a very safe way," he said.

"Modern Family" will air the wedding episode in the U.S. on Wednesday, May 21.
