Alibaba IPO Price: 1st Mega-IPO To Complete Biggest Public Offering In U.S. History For $200 Billion

Alibaba IPO price hovering $200 billion is part of grand history in the making.  The deal reveals several aspects of Chinese entrepreneurship and American market.

Alibaba is first mega-IPO founded by a Chinese entrepreneur in U.S. history.  Jack-Ma, founder of the Chinese Internet giant says that Alibaba will be completing the biggest public offering in U.S. history.

According to Bill Kirby and Warren McFarlan of the Harvard Business School, Alibaba comes to the U.S. to "raise capital and maintain management control," which they couldn't do in Hong Kong. Hong Kong believes in the principle that each share of stock is entitled to one vote. The US markets, on the other hand, proclaim that some classes of shares can have more clout than others. Thus, founder Jack Ma and his management team, who own a little over 9 percent of the company, can still retain control of its destiny."

The story of Alibaba resonates with the beginnings of a Chinese startup, unlike state run businesses. This success story resembles that of Apple and Amazon in the U.S.

Innovation and entrepreneurship is not singled out at Alibaba, but it is a force to be reckoned with in China. Alibaba signals more lasting growth in China.

Jack Ma explains, "If Google is exploring the boarder of technology, then what we are doing is employing technology to explore the boarder of business," adding, "Our contribution is bringing the Chinese society into a real business world. Although China has entered the business era, many people are still thinking in an agricultural way."

Ma's most important words about Alibaba's contribution was, "If Alibaba could contribute something to the Chinese society, we hope it can bring Chinese society onto a new stage where people honor contracts, honor the efficiency in resource distribution, and honor the inspiration of innovation."

He added, "We are working towards this end."
