Spoiler Alert: Whatever happened to "Game of Thrones" Lady Stoneheart? Fans of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" were disappointed at the turnout of the "Game of Thrones'" season 4 finale, all because a major, plot-twisting character was left out.

Fans were hoping the new character would come out, or at least to be introduced on this week's GoT finale, but were disappointed when no sign of Lady Stoneheart even streaked any scene, even until the season's closing credits.

One of the show's mainstays is partly responsible for the wave of freak-outs on social media following the events of the previous episode. Lena Headey posted an Instagram photo which all but hinted of the character making her appearance in the finale. It appeared Headey was trolling the site in retrospect.

The season 4 finale was considered one of the best episodes in the series. "The Children" delved further into the secrets behind The Wall, with Bran meeting the Three-Eyed Raven and The Brothers of the Night Watch bracing themselves for the coming Winter.

The episode also involved a number of deaths, true to Martin's knack of killing off characters, almost at whim. Twitter feeds exploded with dissenting tweets; fans of the book and TV series didn't like it when "Game of Thrones" Lady Stoneheart wasn't part of the finale.

HBO's "Game of Thrones" isn't a faithful adaptation of "A Song of Fire and Ice," with discrepancies in character buildup and in the chronology of events. Season 4 finale director Alex Graves defended the show-runners' decision to leave Lady Stoneheart out of the episode.

Graves on the question of "Game of Thrones" Lady Stoneheart: "To bring back Michelle Fairley, one of the greatest actresses around, to be a zombie for a little while -- and just kill people? It is really sort of, what are we doing with that? How does it play into the whole story in a way that we're really going to like? It just didn't end up being a part of what was going to happen this season." (huffingtonpost.com)
