When Justine was asked about what's the hold up for them to marry, he didn't say why it's taking them so long. He only teased everyone by saying they couldn't wait to get married with this statement:

According to People.com, when the actor was interviewed during the premiere of The Leftovers ( the event is about a global Rapture-like), he stated that "some people disappear and others are left behind" and that's the reason why he would want to take his longtime love with him to the afterlife if he were ever taken or left behind.
