If there’s one Nintendo game that you might want to be interested on, it has to be Mario Maker. Nintendo is apparently looking for new ways to encourage gamers to design and share their own content without the pressure of rankings and community evaluation.

Game producer, Takashi Tezuka, said that Mario Paint is one of his inspirations and he intends to use the Miiverse social network for the Wii U in order to make it easy for users to display their levels to friends and the wider community.

The developer suggests that Mario Maker will have the traditional rankings and featured levels that are used by other user-driven titles, such as Little Big Planet. However, his team is also looking at ways of making sure that all shared levels are seen by others. Nintendo was known not to embrace social networks, but the Miiverse has become pretty successful since it was introduced.

It will be interesting to learn how the company can create a sharing mechanic that guarantees that quality levels are played by as many gamers as possible, while the low-rated ones get less criticism.

Mario Maker is currently available on Wii U home consoles, although Tezuka admits that he also thought of creating a version of the game for the 3DS handheld. The game will benefit from the computing power of the Nintendo home console that enables players to create more intricate designs.

Mario Maker is set to let players create stages using the same tools for the core installments in the long-running franchise. Nintendo has guaranteed a range of visual styles for the game, including a classic 8-bit one and some associated with series that are now developed inside the company.

The company is hoping to increase sales of the Wii U during the rest of 2014 and make it a worthy competitor with the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 until Mario Maker arrives in 2015.
