The tragic news of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 being shot down in Ukraine sent the whole world into a slump of grief, hysteria, and even anger.

Almost 300 civilian passengers and crew died in the crash including over a hundred top world researchers for HIV/AIDS heading for a conference in Australia.

Many took to social media sites to express their condolences. A number of celebrities also shared their views and sadness over the event.

Nicki Minaj tweeted, "Such horrible news. My heart goes out to the victims and their surviving families. We take so much for granted. #MH17 #MalaysiaAirlines RIP"

Hip hop business magnate, Russel Simmons joined in the prayers for Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 as well, writing "prayers to all of the families of the passengers and crew on #MH17."

British journalist and TV host Piers Morgan expressed his suspicion that the missing MH370 flight could have also suffered the same fate.

He wrote on Twitter, "And if this Malaysia Airlines was shot down, chances of the same having happened to previous one dramatically increased?"

Singer Estelle wrote through Twitter, "Praying for the families of anyone on board - if there was. Developing story is just ...& Malaysian airlines is having the worst year ever."

South African TV personality Bonang Matheba not only mourned the plane crash, she also thought of all the lives lost in other world disasters.

She tweeted, ".... something isn't right with the world!! #Gaza #MalaysiaAirlines #Typhoon #BokoHaram #Tripoli"

Not all celebrity tweets for Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 were of sadness, however. "American Pie" star Jason Biggs was met with angry netizen responses when he tweeted a joke regarding the airline's ill fate.

His controversial post, "Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flyer miles?" has been deleted since.

Katy Perry also made a blunder with her condolences. The singer-songwriter confused the AIDS researchers and staff on the ill-fated flight for "100 @UNICEF volunteers."

However, the sentiment was still clear despite the mistake.
