Byron Scott will be LA Lakers new Coach

It took a long time for the LA Lakers to finally choose a new coach. It has nearly been three months but up to now, the team has not officially announced who their new coach is. But there are news stating that Byron Scott has been hired by the team though he is still not officially announced yet.

Scott had already won three NBA titles when he was the shooting guard for the Lakers. According to KCBS-TV, he will be taking over the slot left by Mike D'Antoni after the latter resigned last April 30.

According to Scott "It feels fantastic. This is a dream come true. I always wanted to coach the Lakers, especially when I got to coaching. It's so unreal. I have to thank (general manager) Mitch (Kupchak), (owners) Jeanie and Jim Buss to give me this opportunity."

But it wasn't just KCBS-TV who reported this, according to ESPN.com, Scott would be taking over the team on a four-year, $17 million contract.

Scott definitely has what it takes to be a coach for the LA Lakers. He has played with Kobe Bryant during his rookie years and Bryant also endorsed him for the coaching job just this month. Aside from that he has had experiences as a head coach for New Jersey, New Orleans and Cleveland.

According to Bryant "He was my rookie mentor when I first came in the league, so I had to do things like get him doughnuts and run errands for him, things like that. We've had a tremendously close relationship throughout the years."

If this is true, Scott will be the team's fifth coach in a span of three years. He has been a head coach for parts of the NBA 2013 season. He was also responsible for leading New Jersey to a back to back Eastern Conference Championships back in 2022 and 2003 but lost the NBA finals. He was also awarded as the coach of the year during 2008 but he has also been fired for each of his three coaching jobs.

There are other prospect coaches that the LA Lakers have been looking into. Among them are Lionel Hollins and George Karl.
