Too bad for fans of Nucky and the whole gang. The next season for the show is the Boardwalk Empire final season. But in a way this is good news as well, because it will be probably be their best season, as the show producers, cast, and staff will pour everything in this last couple of episodes. And from what we can see in the Boardwalk Empire final season 5 trailer, this season is one exciting, dramatic series.
In the short clip, we see the star of the show, Steve Buscemi, as Nucky Thompson saying ominously: "The trick is to stay alive long enough to cash out." It is clear that survival and a splashy exit is what our main character has in his mind. But the Boardwalk Empire final season 5 trailer also carries a warning of a tagline: "All empires fall." Which should leave audiences who are rooting for Nucky's a little bit nervous for their hero.
Though little else is known about the Boardwalk Empire final season 5 plotline, what we do know is that it will take place 7 years after the last season took place, in the 1930s with the Great Depression probably providing much of the backdrop for the show.
It was in the Television Critics Association panel early in the year that HBO execs confirmed that this will Boardwalk Empire's final season. "It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers. Terry Winter has created one for the ages," Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming shared during the TCA panel.
Showrunner Terry Winter confirmed that Boardwalk Empire's final season 5 trailer is the teaser for the final airing of the show which will premiere on September 7. Winter also promised fans that this final season will be its most "unforgiving" yet.
And if the Boardwalk Empire final season 5 trailer is any indication, it probably be a bloodbath just as in the prior seasons with the horrific deaths of many of the beloved main characters.
