A Cameroon player died of a head injury after he was hit by a stone thrown out by an avid fan at a top-flight league game in Algeria. Currently, the police are still investigating on the issue; this is according to the Confederation of African Football.

Albert Ebosse, a striker from Cameroon died at the hospital last Saturday night after he was hit by a stone thrown out to players after they left the field following a 2-1 loss for his club, JS Kabylie.

Ebosse was the only player who scored a goal for their team which equalized the score from the opponent via  a penalty shot. But luck was not on their side as the game ended with them losing the match at their home field against USM Alger in the northern city of Tizi Ouzou.

According to the president of the African confederation, Issa Hayatou "'We expect exemplary sanctions to be taken against this grave act of violence."

On the other hand, President of Algeria's professional league, Mahfoud Kerbadj was present during the match but did not witness the happening. He said "I am still finding this tragic death hard to grasp because I was at the stadium just minutes before this tragic incident and Albert Ebosse was still running in all senses of the word before my eyes."

Ebosse was the leading goal-scorer in the Algerian league last season. He joined Kabylie last year and scored 17 goals last season as his team finished second to USM Alger.

USM Alger said of the mishap "JS Kabylie's Cameroonian striker has lost his life after being hit in the head by something launched from the stands. This terrible news is saddening for football in our nation and in Cameroon and arrives like a bombshell."

He was signed by Perak FA on 15 April 2012 as a replacement for outgoing striker Lazar Popović. He made his league debut for Perak in a 2-2 draw with Sabah FA on 17 April 2012 and scored his first goal for Perak in a 2-2 draw with Terengganu FA on 4 May 2012.

Currently, Ebosse remains are at a military hospital being prepared to be taken back home to Cameroon.
