The first episode on the 25th recorded a viewer rating of 22.3%, followed by 28.9% for the second episode. The broadcast on the 3rd experienced a 3.2% decrease, but still managed a high viewer rating of 25.7%.
'Unexpected You' is the story of what happens after the marriage between Cha Yoon Hee (Kim Nam Joo) and Bang Gwee Nam (Yoo Jun Sang), a perfect orphan, including the appearance of unexpected in-laws Um Chung Ae (Yoon Yeo Jung) and Bang Jang Soo (Jang Yong).
This drama is the work of Kim Nam Joo's exceptional performance bringing 'Queen of Reversals' and 'Queen of Housewives' writer Park Ji Eun's witty dialogue to life. Middle-aged actors Kang Bu Ja, Yoon Yeo Jung, Na Young Hee, and Jang Yong complement the young actors Yang Jung Ah, Jo Yoon Hee, and Oh Yeon Seo to create a perfect combination.
The main reason that the drama is popular is because of its realistic characters. Yoon Hee works as a PD and is therefore always surrounded by PDs, writers, and actors with high standards that she is a woman adept to lying. Because she has no particular reason to look good for Um Chung Ae, Yoon Hee directly expresses her fastidious personality towards Um Chung Ae, as her future marriage life looks bleak. The more we are exposed to the characters, the more we can relate and fall for them.
